Info on contact lenses
When you get your first pair of lenses, your eye care professional will provide you with instructions on how to wear and care for your new contact lenses. As part of your eye examination and fitting, you will receive a demonstration of lens insertion and removal and complete lens care. This will also include a introductory kit with a trial pair of lenses, lens case, solutions and instructions to use the lenses. Ensure that you follow up with the doctor after a few weeks or as advised for your check-up.
Use of make-up and cosmetics with contact lenses
Makeup like eyeliner and eye shadow can be used with contact lenses, as long as these do not get into your eyes, under your eyelids or on your contact lenses. It is better to insert contact lenses before you put on your makeup so that your fingers don't transfer oils from cosmetics to the lens surface. Cosmetics often have bacteria, which can then be introduced into the contact lens and eye if you are not careful.
Irritation in the eyes
Never trivialize eye redness or irritation if it were to occur and should be checked out by your eye care professional immediately. The first step when irritation occurs would be to remove your contact lenses, clean, rinse and disinfect them. Put them in their case and put your eyeglasses on. It is important that every contact lens wearer keep a backup pair of eyeglasses, which can be worn when not wearing contact lenses or when such a situation occurs.
