Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses
These lenses are made of flexible plastic, which allows for a better oxygen flow to the eyes.
Benefits
- Crisp vision and can be used to correct most vision problems
- Comfortable to wear and easy to adapt
- Easy to care
- Durable with a long life
- Available in tints for visibility and various colors for enhancement
- Available for people needing bifocals and toric lenses
Disadvantages
- Consistent use for better adaptation
- Tends to move from centre of the eye much more than other lenses causing discomfort
- Dust particles more likely to enter the eye causing irritation
- Requires frequent follow-up care
Daily-wear soft lenses
These are soft and flexible lenses, which allow oxygen to the eyes
Benefits
- Easy to adapt to and very comfortable to wear
- Less likely to move as compared to RGPs
- Available in tints, colors and even bifocals
- Good choice for active lifestyles such as for athletes
Disadvantages
- These do not correct all vision defects
- Vision not as clear as RGPs
- Replacements tend to be frequent with usage
- Requires frequent follow-up care
Extended-wear disposable
These lenses are meant for extended period of wear such as from one to seven days and then discarded.
Benefits
- Requires little or no cleaning
- Minimal risk of eye infections by virtue of them being discarded on a regular basis
- Available in tints as well as bifocals
Disadvantages
- Vision not as sharp as RGPs
- These do not correct all vision problems
- Difficult to handle than other types of lenses
Planned Replacement Lenses
These lenses are meant for extended and planned period of wear such as two weekly, monthly or quarterly.
Benefits
- Simple cleaning
- Minimal risk of eye infections
- Better health for the eyes
Disadvantages
- Vision not as sharp as RGPs
- These do not correct al vision problems
- Difficult to handle than other types of lenses
